TBA

TBA Infra is a leading EPC contractor working across northern India’s strategic zones, particularly under BRO (Border Roads Organisation) mandates. In 2022, TBA Infra played a key role in infrastructure upgrades in Poonch, Jammu—supporting the NH-144A expansion and the Bhimber Gali Tunnel project, which aims to reduce travel time and strengthen border connectivity. Operating in areas with high-altitude terrain and abrasive rock, TBA relies on rugged, mobile equipment. Their deployment of Taurian’s Terratrak series ensures continuous production in extreme conditions, aligning with national goals of infrastructure advancement in remote and sensitive regions.

Geological Setting – Tough Terrain. Tougher Rocks.

Poonch, located in the Pir Panjal range of Jammu, lies between 900–1,400 meters above sea level and features steep, rugged terrain with extreme weather shifts—from freezing winters to heavy monsoons. The region’s geology includes high-strength rocks such as quartzite, greywacke, and basalt, ideal for road aggregates but challenging to crush due to their abrasive nature. Quartzite offers excellent durability, while greywacke and basalt provide angular, high-density output. These conditions demand mobile, high-performance crushing systems capable of handling tough materials with minimal downtime in remote, logistically complex environments.

The Challenge

TBA Infra’s project required crushing extremely hard and abrasive rock to produce road base (GSB), wet mix macadam (WMM), and graded aggregates ranging from 10–40 mm for use in flexible pavements and drainage structures. The geological composition—dominated by quartzite and basalt—posed a high abrasivity index, accelerating wear on conventional liners and necessitating robust, long-life wear parts. Additionally, the remote, mountainous location made the deployment of conventional wheeled plants unfeasible, as narrow access roads and uneven terrain restricted movement and installation. With no reliable grid power in the vicinity, the crushing solution had to be self-sufficient. Compounding the challenge was the urgency to mobilize quickly, adhering to tight project timelines in an environment with limited working windows.

The Hybrid Power: Complete Track-Mounted Crushing with Taurian Terratrak series

To tackle the crushing demands in Poonch’s remote, rocky terrain, TBA Infra deployed Taurian’s Terratrak series—a fully mobile, track-mounted setup offering dual power and fast relocation. The system begins with the Terratrak primary powered by TJ200, a 28X42 inches jaw crusher that handles large, blasted rock with ease. Its bolted frame, aggressive stroke, and diesel-hydraulic drive ensure reliable performance in off-grid sites.

For secondary crushing, the Terratrak with CB200 cone crusher uses roller bearings for higher efficiency and lower maintenance. It features hydraulic CSS adjustment and a no-backing liner system, reducing downtime and improving control over product gradation.

The Terratrak Screen 1662, a 3-deck circular motion screen (1.6m x 6.2m), delivers precise separation into 0–6, 6–12, 12–20, and 20–40 mm fractions. Built with a 4-bearing design and 5G vibration, it handles high-moisture, abrasive material with ease.

Together, these units ensured high-output crushing, minimal downtime, and rapid deployment in one of India’s most challenging regions.

Results & Impact

Over the past three years, TBA Infra’s Terratrak installation has delivered consistent, high-performance crushing in the challenging terrain of Poonch. The plant achieved average outputs of 250+ TPH while processing highly abrasive quartzite and basalt, with uptime exceeding 96%. Its track-mounted mobility enabled swift relocation across job sites, critical for meeting BRO’s tight construction schedules. The dual power system ensured uninterrupted operations in areas with limited or no grid access. Precision screening from the Terratrak 1662 allowed TBA Infra to meet stringent aggregate gradation standards for road base and drainage layers. Supported by Taurian’s remote diagnostics and service team, the system continues to run with minimal downtime—proving its durability and reliability in India’s most demanding border projects.
